Wow...impressive!!
Make sure you are looking at things around your house and asking if they are pure substances or mixtures. If they are mixtures, are they heterogeneous or homogeneous? Watch out for the sneaky in-between heterogeneous mixtures.

Good job today presenting your worldview. Make sure you "pep" it up in your journal if you want to add any other information. Remember, you need to make sure you are CONNECTING your values/beliefs to the systems of worldview.
Example of a 1:
An example of my political system worldview is Stephen Harper. He is our prime minister and he holds power in our society.
Example of a 4:
An example of my political system worldview is Canada's democracy. We live in a democratic country, where people can vote for who they choose. This encourages rights and freedoms of citizens. I value having rights and freedoms, and choosing who to vote for. Having that choice allows me to learn and become an informed citizen, which is my role in society. I am happy to live in a democratic society where I feel safe, am free to speak my mind, and can be responsible by becoming informed so when I am old enough to vote, I can make an educated decision on who should be my prime minister and hold power in my country.
Good luck : )

Lots of great station work today.
Please finish the Math Links textbook work for homework p. 291 #5-12. Remember, you can access the textbook online through D2L in the Cougar Community under content.
Your WHMIS symbols and lab rule explanations are not due tomorrow but if you have an extra few minutes tonight to work on them great. Lab safety needs to be completed as there are lots of labs in this Mix & Flow Unit!!
Please review your multiplying integer rules.

Math/Science
Amazing work on your stations today. We felt you were really clicking with multiplying integers!! We are excited to read your thoughts about what was happening to the particles in the oil/water/food colouring beaker...
Please show your adults your Math journal and teach them how to prove the multiplying laws using integer tiles.
So sad you are the double Friday drop class for Ma/Sci tomorrow. :(
Enjoy your weekend & please get that multiplying integer sheet completed & pasted into your journals. No loose papers please...we might just shake your journals on Monday! ;)

I heard that 804 had a wonderful day and rolled out Humanities expectations with Ms. Noullett and our substitute like a bunch of pros!!!!
Today we...

Understanding
Worldview
- students are to show and tell what they know
about Worldview, there are no limitations to what the kids can do other than
they MUST make connections to the elements of worldview (Political and Economic
systems, Social Systems, and Culture) and the factors that impact worldview
(geography, ideas and knowledge, and contact)
Adults...ask your student what they are doing!! We will finish tomorrow.

Hello everyone,
We have been working hard to understand Worldview!! We are proud of how well everyone is doing as this is such big concept.
Today we did notes, worked in our journals and had tons of discussion.
Please check through your notes and "beef up" areas that might be lacking. See below for some of the notes that 804 did on the board in collaboration with teacher discussion and our PPT.
Do not forget to be reading each night (20 to 30 minutes would be fantastic!!). Wednesday is in class reading and Thursday will be a reader response. Tomorrow we will have a creative writing task to start our day :-)

Math Extra Help
Happy Sunday!!
Here is a great website for extra practice with integers. You can start slow then challenge yourself, or you can dive right into new topics. It is a wonderful resource to practice at home....and that is the key to math - practice!! Just scroll down to "Operations with Integers" and there are tons of questions that immediately give you feedback.
Here is the link:
Extra Math Help
Here is a great video explaining adding and subtracting negative numbers. It is a bit dry at the beginning but honestly it is so informative and really explains the process well. Take a look if you think you need extra help!

Math
Today we did stations and worked out our daily schedule. We completed a question of the day (where you had two choices) and then worked really hard on nailing down addition statements with integers.
Our questions of the day were:
1. (-6) + (+3) =
OR
2. The base of a mountain is 6033 m below the surface of the ocean. The mountain peak is 4170 m above the surface of the ocean. Estimate AND calculate the height of the mountain.
We are having a marking party and looking at your journals tonight. Be prepared for more math tomorrow :)
Great work grade eights!

Humanities
1. Today we signed out library books and everyone should have a novel. Even though it is expected that reading takes place at home each evening, novels also need to come to class each day.
Reading journal task: (answer the following questions in your journal)
- Why Read?
- Why am I reading this book? (why did you choose the book you signed out?)
- What do I already know about the book, the author, the theme...(look for clues...title, summary, etc)
- What details do I think the author will include in the the text...make PREDICTIONS.
2. Writing task to be completed in journals... What does HAPPY look like?
- at least a paragraph of writing is required (this means you have 1 introductory sentence, at least 3 detail sentences, and 1 concluding sentence)
- you may have more writing :-)
- you may create lists or word webs...you may include pictures/visuals/drawings
- borders and/or backgrounds are ALWAYS a good idea when working in your journals (especially a task like this)

Science
Today we did a double period of Science and it was awesome! We learned about observations, and about solids/liquids/gases. We also were introduced to fluidity and fluids and how to identify different substances. You all did great. Here is a picture of the board for your notes, if you did not finish copying some of your observations.
Have a great day : )
