Humanities

Tuesday, October 27

Yesterday we had a great time at VIVO!!

Today we:
- read our independent novels

- Creative Writing: keep working on it please! Everyone needs to have 3 pages double spaced. This will be handed in next week.

- Fairy Tale #2: should be planned and started. This is homework. We really would like students to be finished their second fairy tale by Thursday and have it handed in.

- we learned and reviewed about making SUPER SWAG Sentences and reviewed simple, compound and complex sentence structures. This will translate into better writing!!!

Tomorrow we will look at parts of sentences and sentence structure, as well as finishing up or editing fairy tale #2.

Ma/Sci

Wow...amazing work in your stations today!!

You will have period 1 to finish up your stations and put the finishing touches on your journals.  Remember, both your Math & Science journals are coming in for assessment tomorrow at the end of class.

Check previous blog posts for dates & titles & assignment details.

Humanities - Monday

Today we reviewed story structure and tomorrow we will have a check-in assessment.

We also watched Partly Cloudy and students completed a journal page outlining the story's plot and all the elements within the plot, along with some visuals to support their understanding of the story. This is HOMEWORK if not completed.

The purpose of this was to revisit the important aspects of story structure so that when students complete their next Fairy Tale Station they will be sure to include all the elements, especially conflict and falling action (which are missing from many of the first fairy tale stations handed in last week)

Also, students are to have their Japan title page for their scrapbooks completed today, titled:
MY JOURNEY THROUGH JAPAN.

  • The journal page must have the word JAPAN and at least 3 images that reflect Japan (based upon what they have learned from Chapter 12: Land of the Rising Sun and the geography research task)

Tomorrow students will begin their Scrapbook Entry #1 for their journey through Japan.

Math

Please finish up your integer worksheet, and make sure your station work is complete. You have a QUIZ ON WEDNESDAY that will assess you on both multiplying and dividing integers. HUM - D.I.R.T. Homework

Today in Humanities we worked on a Daily Independent Reading Task (almost 2 full periods of time)

Students had to choose 1 of 4 tasks...
A. General reading Log Prompts
B. Personal Connections
C. Picturing Textual Details
D. Alternate Book Cover

** students have copies of each task and need to aim for the "I'm there now" section which represents excellent work for this task **

Tomorrow - students will have a bit of time to print and pep up this task, but all work and journals will be handed in on Friday.

On Monday, students will begin our Japan unit and a Fairy Tale unit.

Math Journal

Here is a picture of my Math journal.....pep yours up if you missed something or didn't finish! Try a couple of your own division questions....switch it up and test yourself. If you want you go online to Multiplication/Division and do some rapid practice. Math is ALL about practice. Good work today..... the journals looked much better :)
